Position Summary
We are seeking an experiencedElectrical Designer to support complex engineering and design projects onsite in Newport News, Virginia. 
The ideal candidate will have experience developing electrical design documentation, drawings, and models for marine, shipboard, industrial, or other highly engineered systems.

The Electrical Designer will work closely with electrical engineers, naval architects, mechanical engineers, and other technical disciplines to develop accurate and practical electrical design solutions that meet project requirements, industry standards, and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and installation drawings.
• Create and modify electrical designs using AutoCAD and/or other CAD design software.
• Support electrical system design for power distribution, lighting, communications, controls, and equipment installations.
• Develop electrical layouts, equipment arrangements, cable routing, and electrical installation details.
• Interpret engineering specifications, electrical schematics, system diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, structural, piping, and other engineering disciplines.
• Perform design updates based on engineering calculations, field information, customer requirements, and design reviews.
• Assist engineers with developing design packages and technical documentation.
• Participate in drawing and model reviews to identify design conflicts and constructability issues.
• Support the development of bills of material, equipment lists, cable schedules, and other engineering deliverables.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
• Review existing drawings and documentation and incorporate revisions into current design packages.
• Support onsite surveys, measurements, installation support, and as-built documentation as required.
• Work effectively within project schedules and communicate design status, issues, and technical concerns to the project team.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree, technical degree, or equivalent experience in Electrical Design, Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting
• 3+ years of electrical design/drafting experience in an engineering or industrial environment.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Ship Constructor required
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
• Understanding of electrical power distribution, equipment connections, cable routing, and electrical installation practices.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate engineering documentation.
• Ability to work onsite and collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, and project personnel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with shipboard, marine, naval, industrial, or defense-related electrical systems.
• Familiarity with electrical design standards and practices used in marine or defense applications.
• Experience with cableways, cable routing, electrical equipment arrangements, and shipboard electrical installations.
• Knowledge of NAVSEA, ABS, IEEE, NFPA, or other applicable industry standards.
• Experience working from technical specifications and customer design requirements.
• Familiarity with 3D modeling or multidisciplinary engineering design environments.
• Previous experience supporting government or defense projects is a plus
